Health care leader honored for innovation

CONCORD - The Foundation for Healthy Communities recently honored Karen Voci, Executive Director of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, with its Innovator's Award. The award celebrates extraordinary ingenuity, creativity and skill in improving health or healthcare access, delivery or quality. Recipients are honored for outstanding individual achievement, or for leadership in groundbreaking collaborative research and development work that advances health or healthcare access, delivery or quality.

Voci demonstrated these qualities by way of her remarkable vision and creativity in bringing an evidence-based program – CATCH Kids Club – to prevent childhood obesity to New Hampshire. Her leadership helped to bridge health expertise and experience with a diverse array of youth agencies, after-school programs and municipal recreation departments throughout the state. The NH CATCH Kids Club includes program sites that have reached more than 3,000 children in all corners of New Hampshire.

Most importantly, this innovator has been steadfast in her commitment to help link regional experts, local champions and community resources in a coordinated strategy to advance health and prevent childhood obesity.

The Foundation for Healthy Communities is a nonprofit corporation that exists to improve health and health care in New Hampshire. The Foundation's partnerships include hospitals, health plans, clinicians, home care agencies, public policy leaders, and other health and social service organizations.
