Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was established in 1989 as the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research. Reauthorizing legislation passed in November 1999 establishes AHRQ as the lead Federal agency on quality research. AHRQ, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is the lead agency charged with supporting research designed to improve the quality of health care, reduce its cost, and broaden access to essential services. AHRQ's broad programs of research bring practical, science-based information to medical practitioners and to consumers and other health care purchasers.

Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
CMS is the federal agency that administers Medicare, Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). It provides health insurance for over 74 million Americans through Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP. Directory of America's Hospitals
The American Hospital Association has joined forces with U.S. News & World Report to produce a consumer-oriented online directory of hospitals in the U.S. The free directory encompasses more than 18,000 Web pages containing key information and statistics on more than 6,000 hospitals in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the territories. The data can be searched by hospital name, state, region and type of hospital. Hospital-specific data ranges from location and contact information to services provided, number of beds, staffing and admissions.
