...Working Together to Ensure a Healthier New Hampshire Environment

Welcome to the New Hampshire Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (NH3E) web pages. NH3E is a network of hospitals concerned with how their practices can impact the environment and health of the communities they serve. Its members learn from, and with, other New Hampshire hospitals facing similar environmental challenges. NH3E hospitals also work to reduce the volume and toxicity of their waste. Here you can find more information about the group’s mission, meetings and other information pertinent to the activities of the network.

Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI)

The New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA) understands the importance of environmental sustainability for its hospitals and the patients and communities they serve. It not only positively impacts the health of New Hampshire residents, but also allows hospitals to reduce costs. NHHA is committed to helping its members improve upon their sustainability efforts. To that end, in 2012, NHHA officially became a supporting organization of the Healthier Hospitals Initiative (HHI).

HHI is an exciting, no-cost nationwide initiative that seeks to assist hospitals in attaining their sustainability goals. It aims to help hospitals improve the health of patients, staff, and the community, as well as reduce costs, meet standards, laws, and regulations, and highlight the great work of your hospital. The Healthier Hospitals Initiative offers hospitals six different challenge areas to focus on – Engaged Leadership, Healthier Foods, Leaner Energy, Less Waste, Smarter Purchasing, and Safer Chemicals.

New Hampshire hospitals have taken these challenges to heart with many hospitals signing up for all six challenges. NHHA is focused on helping hospitals engage in the Leaner Energy and Healthier Foods Challenges and working with HHI to provide even more tools, resources, and assistance to hospitals. To date, more than half of the New Hampshire hospitals have signed onto HHI. To view the list of hospitals currently enrolled in HHI, click here...
